I use the accelerometer all the time. With Torque, all you need is an OBD2 dongle (they are cheap and easily available) and your problem is solved. I have a magnetic mount from JB4 stuck to my dashboard where I mount my phone for easy viewing in real-time.

Another nice feature of Torque is that I can get a *real-time digital tachometer* with maximum and minimum values, which has been an itch I was desperate to scratch.

One of my custom screens in Torque Pro.

iPhone users should search the Apple App Store for "g meter"s. I found one that looks pretty good; maxG - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/maxg/id1086597366
Wow, that is pretty cool. Maybe I can even use an old iPhone-5s or iPhone-6 and leave it in the car? Says iOS-9 or higher, so no problem there (barely).

Is this a good OBD2 dongle? I guess I need it for this plus the more common OBD2 uses (like Diags).

I'm a noob when it comes to these ODB dangles, but I was surprised when I saw it uses WiFi instead of Bluetooth to communicate. Is there an advantage to using one of these wireless technologies over the other?

The actual OBD Eleven dongle communicates to the control device (iOS or Android) via Bluetooth. The control device (iOS or Android) then acts as a conduit via WiFi to the OBD Eleven servers / cloud connection.

As far as Generic ODB scanners to the control device — no idea.
