Default Great, Quick Read Audi DTM Engine (for an RS5)

If you haven't read & viewed the slideshow on the homepage of this board (audiworld.com), the info on the new DTM dedicated engine is so mind-boggling that you'll be smiling when thinking of the engineering this took: a 187 lb 2.0 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine that will put out....wait....610 HP. Will rev to 10,000 RPMs & has a gear change at 9500. Insane thermal efficiency. I know-only designed to last for the 3800 approx mile racing series in an RS5. Still....if this is where Audi can take an internal combustion engine, wow. Why do I think sister company Porsche engineering might have had a little input in this process.....

FWIW Audi is developing all 4 and six-cylinder new engines used among Audi/Porsche. Porsche, on the other hand, develops all new motors 8+ cylinders and up. These engines are in the VAG group including Lambo/Bentley.
The new eight-cylinder engine in the upcoming RS7 was developed by Porsche. Meanwhile, the six cylinders (2.9TT) developed by Audi is in the RS5, pan 4s, and future Porsche New Cayenne S and most likely the Facelift Macan Turbo.

The ironic thing about this is that many magazines and youtube videos all claim that the 2.9TT engine is sourced from Porsche, even though it was developed by Audi. The 2.9TT engine in the RS5 is more powerful than the comparable engine in the Panamera. I'm certainly not complaining as I had assumed it would be the other way around.

Looks like Porsche hasn't given up on building new ("heavily revised") 6 cylinder engines:

https://www.topspeed.com/cars/porsch...-ar171852.html

Re-engineered flat 6 turbo for the 992. Carrera S, AWD Carrera 4S. They consider this a new engine as so many changes have been made from original naturally aspirated versions. Also talking about using a new generation hybrid flat 4 used in the 919 for the new 911.

Sure sounds like Porsche went back to the garage and designed a new flat 6 engine for the 992 911.
