Anyone noticed unusual amount of stone chips on the hood? I don’t do a lot of highway driving but I’ve noticed that my hood has a lot of small stone chips noticeable when obesered closely. I’m thinking it’s hiw the hood beds toward the tip but it could just be a bad paint job as well. Anyone else noticed that?

It is environmentally safe paint, most likely water based and it does not have the durability of oil based paint. It's soft and therefore is prone to chips, bummer! Paint protection on the hood and other stone chip areas will mitigate the problem.

I have Xpel film and I only have one chip on the film (no paint damage) even with a lot of highway driving in the desert. The A5 loaner with 10K miles on it had tons of chips, so I'd say it's pretty common, and more noticeable on dark colored cars. Definitely invest in Xpel or similar PPF if you can.

3 rock chips on the hood after one week of ownership. The low hood line definitely has something to do with it. If I could do it all over again, I would buy the hood protection film.

Common on Audis. My father's advice (he's also an Audi guy) when he found out I was buying one:
"Budget for a clear bra on day one. You will be absolutely riddled with paint chips if you don't, the paint on these things is made out of butter."
So I had 3M film put on the day after I took delivery. Three days after delivery I noticed the hood film had a small slice in it where a particularly nasty stone cut right through it...but the paint was saved. A year later there is a slice through one of the headlights and a couple of nicks elsewhere on the frontal clear bra, and surely many others which are too small to notice or have self healed. But the paint underneath seems protected. Great investment!

Same. I really regret not getting PPF for at least the hood. The shape of the hood where it meets the grill seems to make it a magnet for rocks, and the dark paint shows every little chip. For those still waiting to take delivery - seriously consider spending the money for some protection before it's too late.

It's not too late to stop the carnage. Touch up the chips and get the hood covered. My dealer asks $2500 to get full front end PPFd. I go to the guy they use and he charges me $900-1000.

Yeah the hood of our B9s are real susceptible to chips due to the hood coming down to the bumper area and the slope. PPF and it drive on.
