How glad are you that the S5 doesn't have run flat tires?

Despise run flats with a passion. Had them on my Z4 and 328 and was one of the main factors as to why I didn't lease another BMW. They're expensive, puncture very easily, shops don't want to repair them, and worst of all the ride is harsh and loud. The nail in the coffin for me was driving through Arkansas and getting a flat, then having to wait two days for a tire to be shipped in because the locals didn't carry run flats and they refused to mix one normal tire with 3 run flats.

I'm currently trading in a 2015 Infiniti Q50S AWD for my S5. The Infiniti had runflats on it and they had 1/16" of tread left on all 4 tires in less than 25k miles (rotated every 5k). They also caused the car to track horribly. I ended up putting some pretty cheap BF Goodrich non-RF tires on since I knew I was getting rid of the car in less than a year and they were 10x better handling and better riding tires than the factory Dunlop RFs. Ironically the Infiniti had a package that came with a spare and jack in the trunk, but still had the RFs on it. I'll never use a set of run flats again, very glad the S5 didn't come with them!

I’ve never owned a set of RF tires, so I have no experience with them, but after reading all the posts in this thread I’m certainly glad Audi doesn’t equip our cars with them.

I put Michelin PSPs on my BMW 428i after the awful runflats wore out. I bought the BMW flat tire kit and said I'll take the risk to not have awful runflats. The PSPs were light years better.

As much as I agree that RF are junk, choosing a car based on that is a little bit like choosing a spouse based on the shoes she wear. If everything else is nice new shoes can be purchased....I hate RF and replaced them on my C43AMG by A/S3. The dealer even paid for them as it was a deal breaker for me, after I negotiated the price of course. Skinned them a little bit closer to the one....

Very glad. My last 5 prior cars were BMW's delivered with run-flats and I hated them. Noisy, but at least that had lousy grip. Always swapped them out sooner than necessary. I am addicted to Michelin top tier on cars and motorcycles and lucky for me have not had a flat since 1976. YMMV.
