Default How much did you pay for your ATF change?

Apparently, dropping the pan requires removing the crossmember and replacing the plastic pan. How much did you guys pay?

So the transmission pan is a 1 time use only?

Yeah the filter is built into the pan.

That would explain why he's asking about the price, LOL!

Parts alone for this is between $250 and $500 depending on what you source and the quality. The fluid is NOT cheap and as others noted the filter is built into the pan so the whole thing is replaced. I'm not sure what the labor hours are but there is a very particular process for doing this change. See this video:

You can definitely do it yourself if you're inclined. I doubt taking off the mentioned crossmember would take much time. And honestly, it may be an optional removal depending on the clearance. I just don't recall from the last time I was under there how close it is to the pan.

If the procedure is similar to the 2nd generation Q7, then there is a subframe/trans mount/something else that is in the way.

Correct.

Correct again.

Reasonable request, LOL! Same thing with my Q7 with the 8-speed ZF unit.
For frame of reference, my indy mechanic in MA charged me (2017 Q7) $150 for the service, $150 for the pan with the filter, and another $96 worth of fluid (6 liters). So just a hair under $400 and then there was tax.

You better keep that mechanic forever, that sounds super reasonable!

Wouldn't it be advantageous to service the front and rear (diffs) while doing the transmission fluid, or are the (diffs) on a longer than 50k or 8 year service interval? I do know the rear (diff) requires two different fluids, one for the clutch packs and one for the gears, not sure about the front (diff)?

I was quoted ~$800 for a 6HP so I did it myself. Mechatronics seal, valve body seals and adapter seal might as well be replaced since they will ( long term especially over 80k) will give problems/leaks.
Use a Filtran or ZF filter preferably to prevent problems with aftermarket filters leaking.
Hardest part is getting the car high enough and also level. Parts install the Mechatronics seal can take more time to put the wiring connector back on the transmission. Bend those pins and you will be hosed.
6k miles and 2.5 years later no leaks and it works as before.

Yup, I plan on helping keep him in business as long as I can.

Yes. I did the front and rear diff fluid at 70K on my Q7. The center was done sometime around 45K and I will be doing that again shortly if I do not get into a newer lower mileage '19 Q7....

there should be no need to replace seals. pull the pan/filter, replace, and add new fluid. call it a day. you are never going to get all the fluid out of the system regardless because the S5 is using an 8-speed auto ZF box with a torque converter that is filled with fluid. unless you tear trans from engine and drain that, which is really hard, not worth it....

if you have a A5 and it has a 7-speed DCT, I cannot help you in regards to the service procedure, fluid, cost, etc. I would imagine the pan is similar as there is a filter in it and there is something in the way (subframe or trans mount), but other than seeing both cars side by side up on a lift, I cannot help more if someone has a A5.... I am not sure what the factory service interval is on that trans either. there is "lifetime fluid" in the ZF 8-speed which is BS, there is no such thing as lifetime fluid and we all know that.
