I'm in the process of purchasing an S5 Sportback and I'm debating which additional option to get, HUD or Driver Assistance.
Any thoughts, opinions, preferences?

What do you mean by HUD vs. Drive assistance? Didn't know there was a an option to choose the HUD only. or do you mean Premium Plus vs Prestige?

Went for the HUD and the DAP (Canada as well, independent options). Worth the money IMO particularly if you deal with a traffic heavy commute. DAP is a blessing in traffic and HUD gives you all the necessary details letting you keep your eyes on the road.

I have both and would order both again in a heartbeat. The HUD is awesome to be able to quickly and easily see the current speed vs the current speed limit and the DAP is worth it for adaptive cruise control alone so that on long drives the car will regulate the distance between you and the car in front of you.

I have both and have been on a couple 1000+ mile trips and I won't own a car without either of them again.
HUD - This was one feature I was sure I didn't want, nor thought I'd find useful. WRONG! Having speed/gps/speed limit/DAP info all in one place in your immediate vision is indispensable.
DAP - Freeway driving? Set the cruise on what ever speed you dare go (85-90) and set a comfortable distance from the car in front of you and relax. If the traffic slows, you slow. If the pace picks up, so do you; all while maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you.

Conclusion: HUD + DAP = super useful. One without the other, is less useful. Especially the HUD.

I will also add that with HUD you get navigation directions in the HUD as well. That can be really helpful if you are someone who uses the navigation system a lot.
