Key fob battery warning won't go away

A cool feature of the unit is that it has a self test of the 4 internal AA batteries. When testing a battery if the first two LED's blink alternatively, the (10% and 20%) it's time to replace the unit's batteries. i thought this was a clever addition to the unit.

Press and hold down the "unlock" button on the remote. While holding the "unlock" button, insert the key into the ignition. Hold the "unlock" button and turn the key to the ON position for two seconds. Turn the key to the OFF position, remove it from the ignition, release the "unlock button"

To my surprise, when I checked them 2 weeks ago on the MBT-1 load tester, they both showed the maximum number of LEDs illuminated (6). I’ll try to remember to test them in June — which would be 18 months since they were installed.
