Default LED DRL turns off when turn signal goes on???

....or so says my wife. The headlight on the side the turn signal comes on goes off, but returns when the turn signal goes off.

She says she noted the same thing on our loaner Q5.

Is this correct, and if so, what's the logic for it?

TIA

Not the head light - but the daytime running lights do.

That makes more sense. Thanks.

Is there some better justification other than, 'that's the way the wiring is set up'?

Its for safety. If the DRL stayed on while the turning lights are flashing it will make it hard to notice the turning light.

Thanks, again!

If only more people used their turn signals.

I know you can turn off the DRL “wink” in the MK1 Q5 using Carista (I did it) and assumingly using OBDEleven. I would think the same would be available on the B9 A5 (ODBEleven only, Carista doesn’t support B9), but I haven’t looked at the coding. Google or review other threads if you need more info on ODBEleven.

And taking this statement further, it would be better if more people turned on their headlights. A good portion of drivers don't know that they have to turn on their headlights. Perhaps your wife is one of those people (thinking that the headlights turned off when the signal lights came on)?

FYI - the 'wink' can be disabled with obd eleven unit, as mentioned above... but it does still dim the daytime running light when you signal.

FYI: You can order this holiday bundle directly for ODB11 for cheaper and get a carrying case too.
