Good afternoon friends - Few more meetings this afternoon then more playtime in the garage.
On the docket tonight - addressing the front stereo stage!!!
Big shout out to Bruce Miranda at Micronics for providing excellent advice, answers to all of my questions, high quality product, and excellent customer service. Thanks, buddy!
Going in tonight (pending time availability):
Fatal Pro 4FE32 replacing factory B&O mids in both front doors and center channel (60W 8 ohm) - All modified by Bruce Miranda with partially removed mounting chassis, application of wiring harness tape where needed, and pigtails to bolt right into place (no need to cut any wires!!!). AurumCantus AC165 replacing factory B&O front door woofers - All modified by Bruce Miranda with spacers, door cups, pig-tails, hardware, and compression gasketing where needed - no need to cut any wires!!!
If I remember, I'll try to take some photos of the install - I know this exact setup has been executed several times so I won't need to double up the work and do a DIY.
I know alot of the folks say you want to get "under the screen" and get the underlying chassis to remove the whole grille assembly in one piece.
Unfortunately, I was too gingerly to feel comfortable going that invasive with my interior pry tools. I actually successfully removed the whole assembly in two pieces without breaking any clips
Pictures of the tools I used (probably 15-20 years old from ECSTuning/Schwaben brand) and also the screens split. I can comment that I put them back together (no broken/missing clips, nothing bent). No harm, no foul
And then just general pictures of the install - In process, before, and after. Cant really tell a huge difference yet. But, sample size is relatively small, also only changed one ingredient of the front stage (so far). 2 things; 1) Fatal Pro magnets aren't necessarily deeper, they definitely weigh more and have more girth/diameter 2) make sure you have a 5.5mm socket - I think I got mine at Home Depot for <$10.
Fatal Pro 4FE32/pigtails and Aurum Cantus AC165 + adapters + door cups + pigtails are now installed in both front doors. I took several photos through the process, nothing that hasn't been done before. This is not a DIY nor a replacement of existing documentation, just more supplemental information - Mostly just took photos so people can reference how I routed and anchored the wiring (zip ties used). I also removed the factory harness anchors because they're no longer applicable with this setup (see picture). We don't want rattles!!!
Lastly, I found a few scratches in the OEM CF trim - I took delivery of the car with the scratches... Took care of that with 3M Ultrafina
really curious to see you xpel stealth the navarra blue. i have a cabriolet in the same color and debating if it would be worth wrapping in that or selectively just xpel ultimate high wear areas. keep us posted. congrats on the new ride!
Also last night - Since Audi in their infinite wisdom decided to not offer an RS badged all-weather trunk mat, I made my own. Fit isn't perfect but I figure I can address that with a heat gun later if it really bothers me (it might).
Requirements:
Weathertech A5 trunk liner
Import Image Racing "Audi Sport" stickers
Carpet knife to cut out spots for the tie-downs (I think mine was actually for cutting synthetic turf)
