What are the better functions? All i see as a difference between mine and the locals here in Germany is i have red rear turn signals and they have amber. They do have the rear fog light like all Volvo's do but who uses that in America?
Orange turn signal that sweeps and fog light. No corresponding brake light that flashes on/off.
US spec cars have red turn signals. When they sweep, there is a corresponding on/off brake light that also flashes. The flashing brake light is there in order to meet some stupid US regulation or something. Every time I see an Audi with the combination sweeping turn signal + flashing brake light I think "pick one"!
IMO, the orange turn signal is safer because of the color difference compared to the brake lights. Red = stop, orange = turn as compared with red = stop, unless it also means turning when flashing and sweeping?
The US turn signal incorporates the brake light because the "initial flash" of the sweeping turn signal doesn't meet the minimum brightness requirements. Also, I see lots of Volvo (and Audi, MB, and BMW) drivers using rear fog lights, when they're available, in foggy, rainy, or snowy weather.
Getting rid of the static blinking brake light makes the dynamic turn signals look so much better. Audi produces almost all current North American taillights in a way where the dynamic turn signal and the brake light cannot be untied together so the only option to do that is to fit the full European taillights. There's even a few options for the A5, S5 and RS5 models since the post-facelift taillights work on the pre-facelift models with these kits:
Everyone around seems to know what they do as a lot of them annoyingly drive around with them on even when it's good weather at night.
Those people driving when them on hit the button on accident and never paid attention to the lit up icon on the dash cluster. I would have customers come in and ask what that light was on their dash OR somebody would tell them their brake light was stuck on and they would come to my dealership stating their brake light was stuck on... LOL.... after i explained to them what it was they would shrug and say "that is stupid". Those customers are partly why i left the industry a few years ago.
