In the market for an RS5 after driving son's car.

I've had my '18 S5 SB for 3 years and its very fun and a joy to ride in but its nowhere near "nimble" (I had a G35 before and have a '07 Miata, those are nimble). The S3 is fun, I considered that before. I just got a new A3 for my mom and its definitely noticeably much smaller and lighter. So maybe an S3 or RS3 (?, don't know if they make those).

Yes, he has a new Civic and it was so much fun having a smaller more nimble vehicle again. I'm used to my cruise ship A6 C8 and driving the little Civic was a breath of fresh air. It's about time I get back into something smaller. Kids are grown and we don't have them in my A6 often so I no longer really need that interior space. RS5 looks to have what I want. I'd even go for an S5 since it has the same engine as my 55 A6, which feels pretty fast. It would only be that much faster in an S5. Will start test driving and hope to pull the trigger soon!
I have also driven Audi's 6 models and, to me, they feel like a boat compared to the RS5. Regarding the engine, I believe the S5 tuning is different than the A6 tuning despite having the same base engine. The S5 comes with a bit more power to accompany its lower weight ( 349hp/369tq vs 335hp/369tq ). The RS5 has a somewhat different version of the engine and has 444hp/442tq, so it is in a different league performance-wise. Here is a link that describes the differences between an S5 and RS5 - only you can decide how important these differences are to you:

I would also offer an alternative opinion to those above regarding DRC. Some people like it and some don't. Personally, I like it and would order it again. If you want to try and make the RS5 into a facsimile of a sports car, despite its weight, then the Competition package would be the way to go. However, if that is less of a priority for you and you want to be able to change the suspension for different situations with the touch of a button, the Sport Suspension Plus with DRC is the way to go. Here is a detailed explanation of what DRC is ( the overall thread is about coilover suspensions, which is what the Competition package has, but the Competition package and other coilover options do not have DRC):

Finally, here is a link to driving impressions with the Competition Package vs DRC:

We all want something different from our cars. Your test drives should help sort out what fits you the best.
