Sorry - This question may have been asked before, but searching on SD card turns up a lot of churn.
My Questions - Part 1) What is the Maximum capacity the members have used in their MMI system. I believe the spec says 128 GB but I thought I remembered several members talking about successfully running 256 GB cards for music storage. Part 2) Is there any specific read / write speed that's best for running a big card full of Hi-Def ripped music?
Thank you in advance

As you say, the spec says 128GB. In reality, there's no meaningful difference between 128GB and 256GB (or even higher), unlike the difference between <32GB and >32GB where SDHC changed the addressing scheme. I haven't tried bigger, but I wouldn't be surprised if it worked. Write speed isn't an issue for playback, and MP3/ACC files are usually 320Kbps max. Any card will easily keep up with that. FLAC is a bit more (looks like 1MB/s), but still, any card on the market will probably keep up with it.

Or worded another way you could store around 43,000 songs on a 128GB SD card if the average song size was 3MB.
There is not limit to the number of files a card can hold only a space limit for obvious reasons.
1GB = 1024MB
128GB = 131,072MB

I am pretty sure he meant the MMI has a limit of 10K songs, nothing to do with how many songs a card can or cant hold - which will obviously vary depending on individual file size.

I stand corrected my apologies. I misunderstood his response and was speaking regarding the limitations of the SD card.

Thank you to everyone. I ordered (2) 256 GB SD cards to hold my collection when I start re-ripping in FLACC format.

An option for you would be to rip to WAV and keep that as your archive, then convert from WAV to FLAC. If you do, you will never have to rip again. Just convert from WAV to whatever format your next car supports 10 years from now.
