when i program my car nav ,it also automatically activates my iphone nav.
after i shut car nav off , iphone nav is still active.
is there either a car setting or phone setting to make them independent.
i checked settings on both car and phone, but couldnt find a fix.
so i then called audi tech support, who advised me to shut off bluetooth before i use car nav then put it back on when nav is disengaged.
i didnt like the way that sounded so i called verizon tech support and they told me the same thing.
hearing it now from 2 sources leads to to believe thats my only option .
but before i do that, im reaching out here . do i have any other options?

Sounds like you are using Carplay?
If you are using Apple Maps via Carplay, the nav functionality is actually running on your phone the whole time and the car is just displaying the output. When you disconnect the phone, its working as expected that the nav (Apple Maps) would still be running on your phone unless you stopped/canceled the current route first.
I don't use Carplay and tend to use Waze on the phone but still keep the MMI nav up. In this case the phone nav and car nav are truly independent of each other.

Then I guess I'm not sure clear on exactly how you are using the nav and how the car automatically starts something on your phone. ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
When I use the car's MMI navigation (put in an address/route), it doesn't interact with my phone at all. If I use waze on the phone, it doesn't interact with the car at all (except for audio notifications playing through the speakers). I can use both independently of each other.

thanks for the replies
i didnt take notice what app was running on my phone before i shut it down.
and i know little about jailbreak other then what i just read ,but i dont think i would go that route.
i think its a setting either in the car or the phone, but i couldnt find it.
and when i called audi and verizon neither could they.
if i dont find the solution the next time its in for service i will ask them to check it out.

You'll have to provide more info on what exactly you are doing. What are you entering? How are you starting the nav? Perhaps a video would help. Because, as described currently, this makes no sense. The MMI nav and any turn-by-turn app you might have on your iPhone have absolutely no relation to each other. The iPhone is connect to the MMI via Bluetooth to exchange phone contacts and call functionality. There is no iPhone nav integration other than via CarPlay and that's also fairly separate.

Good for you. Still have no idea what you are talking about.
I'm going to make a wild guess that what you are doing is using voice commands to start navigation. And you are doing it in a manner that both the car and the phone are detecting and are independently starting navigation.
Again, without you being more specific about what you are trying to do and how you are doing it we can only speculate.
