Service advisor told me 10K or one year, whichever comes first. Our '19 RS5 only has ~5k on it thanks to COVID...just had the oil changed

Slight variant on this question: I bought mine new at the end of April 2020. The countdown on my oil change reminder is going to hit zero in a couple days - so before the end of February. That’s about two months ahead of my purchase date.

So for purposes of the oil change schedule, when does the one year begin? Is it the date the dealer took delivery? Something else? The car’s tag says it was built in December 2019.

Not a critical question either way - I’ll take it in soon and end up splitting the difference - just curious.

In my case my car carries a May 2018 build date but I did not pick it up until June of 2018. In the 2 years since, the oil change reminder happens in May of each year. I’m not sure if my car was built and put on a ship in the same month but I’ve been told it may be something that is set at the export port prior to being loaded on the ship for transport. How accurate that information is an unknown.

I believe that it is set at either the export or import port. My car has a build date of 10/18, but I did not purchase it until 2/19, and I remember its first oil change counter was set to sometime in mid-late 12/18.

Thanks for all the info, guys. I got the oil changed last week. Dadrocker, I had that same question. I was focusing on one year from when I got the car, but since it's a 2019 it sat on the lot for a year. So I realized that the oil was almost two years old. I feel better now that it has some fresh oil in there.
