Well she's back from her dechrome and my word, I have to say, seeing the car in person with a chrome delete is something else. I was blown away at how much it changes the look of your car and pictures simply don't do it justice. And paired with a subtle 50% ceramic tint all around, she's got a lot more mystique and class now. Manhattan grey and dechrome is just sexy. All that's left are the rims. Waiting on some 2021 20" black optic rims to come in to complete the look I'm going for Here are some random pics as I know there have bee a few members (including myself) looking for higher quality pics to demonstrate the quality. Pardon the dust and dirt; have to let it cure for a bit before I can give it a good wash.
Note: the satin was done with a polymer/vinyl liquid wrap; several coats were done. Gloss black vinyl is a new product by APA "jet gloss black"; went for this as it has notably far less orange peel than 3M (and it's ink black and matches the corner piece at the base of the A pillar and the gloss black mirror caps.
Satin black on:
- grille (minus the S5 badge)
- front vent trims
- side fender badges (just the satin silver part)
- rear diffuser (including trim)
- tailpipes
Gloss black on:
- window trim
- trunk lip
Other:
- OEM gloss black rear badges
- gloss black mirror caps (aftermarket) with sweeping indicators
- PPF on the rocker panels
- 50% tint all around
@inphra — That looks amazing — Congratulations! Any additional data you can share on the exhaust tips in black? While I’m satisfied with the sound of my exhaust, I would like to do something with the chrome tips - something outside of spending between two & four thousand dollars to get the tips in black.
Hey thanks! Yeah it honestly hit me in the face when I went to pick it up from the shop. Very happy with the results
I like the results of the BO, has a more sophisticated look. Question: Did you wrap the exhaust tips or paint them? If wrapped, the material is heat resistant? Could you explain the process used for the tailpipes? Thanks a bunch!

Great looking & unique treatment!

yes I didn't want to get a new exhaust and I didn't want to cut the original tips off as well, which lead me to look at other options.
This is done with the same material as the satin. I believe it's called Spray Wrap Pro, which is a professional grade wrap (not Plasti Dip). It's applied through a paint gun. It is a heat resistant product and that was my first question as well. The shop has done this process to a number of cars and I saw pics. Was helpful to see the finish on a SQ8 to determine if I wanted it or not. Only caveat is that over the years, it hardens and needs a chemical, and some elbow grease, to remove to the original finish.
They removed the diffuser to get a better mask set up before application as well.
