Default Please add oil light on. Need advice

Got car at 32k factory warranty and CPO with recent oil change/service . Car now has 37k and add oil light just came on. I know Audis have a reputation for burning oil.

1) do I add oil asap. If so what kind?

2)do I call dealer service to ask them about it?

3)is this covered by dealer since it's not at its 10k oil change yet?

Any other advice ?

Many dealers will give you a quik top off. I would ask.

Long term? You've got to start watching the oil level to establish the trend. 5,000 miles and consuming about one quart is not worthy of alarm.

look for the sticker on the radiator support bar at the front of the engine. It should tell you what oil is needed, at least by VW spec. Then look at the brands you like.
Not covered unless there is a leak or consumption. It may not have been full--keep your eye on the level

You could install the ECS dipstick so you have two ways to verify the oil level in case the electronic one is giving false readings...cost about $65!

Of course that's anecdotal but NONE of them had oil consumption problems from the 4.2 to the current 2.0L motors.

OK, so this is not a panic situation. It’s basic oil maintenance.

First, double check the oil level. Park on level ground. Let it sit for maybe about ten minutes. Turn the car on, but don’t start it (foot off brake). There is no dipstick from the factory. Use the MMI to check the level.

The oil level will PROBABLY show its a quart low as was on your dash picture. That’s ok for now. If you’ve never looked at it before it’s possible it was somewhat low when you got it 5K miles ago. Ignore any comments that Audis are prone to any particular oil problem.

So you’ll need some oil. If it’s an S5 it requires 0W-20 Audi spec 508.00 oil. REQUIRES. Only quickly available from the Audi or VW dealer. You can’t get it at an auto parts store or Walmart.

if it’s an RS5 or A5 it will spec the 504.00 oil which mostly is 5W-40 but sometimes others. You can also substitute a quart of 502.00 oil such as Mobil 1 0W-40 European Formula which you can get anywhere.

As was mentioned above verify the oil spec by opening the hood and looking at the sticker.

Add the quart (or less if it not a full qt low). Recheck the MMI oil level. There is an extremely low probability the car has a problem, but start watching the level on a weekly basis to be sure.

Thanks all. I saw no under hood sticker that told the oil type. The book wasn't a ton of help either. I called local audi dealer they said my 18 S5 is 0w20 and they top it off for free but they thought you could get it at auto store or walmart....... For future can I buy this online or in a store? It looks like that is so......I'll get it topped off today and watch it.

Ps I did check the MMI and it says low.

Thank you all

Not all 0W-20 oil is the same. It must be VW/Audi 508.00 spec oil for our engine. If you have a bunch of time you can Google 508.00 to read all about it.

In the US currently the only place to get it is at a dealer or online. Again Google 508.00 oil. I buy mine by the case at a discount from a dealer since I change my own oil. For a spare quart, you probably should just get one there.

Dipstick vs MMI reading note. I just got my 2018 S5 with 11k and fresh oil change with 3 year service by dealer as part of sales prep . MMI reading was showing level at about half of range (with just a few miles on it), so that is where dealer filed it to. I added the ECS dipstick and found that it read exactly the same as the MMI, which was very reassuring about MMI readings. With dipstick I was also able to confirm that it really did have very fresh oil, as, being suspicious, it had crossed my mind that it might have been undone at the 3 year service (11k miles) considering that the 2 year service was at 10k and who's to know if it got skipped.
