Just installed a Thule system on my new S5 Sportback. Took a chance and ordered the one specified for the B8 A/S5 Fit like a glove! Thule 480R Rapid Traverse base, 53" Aero Blade and 1571 Kit. Just remember not to try to open your sunroof while it is installed!!!

Buy the Thule 480R and fit kit for the B8/8.5 A/S5, it fits perfectly.

Sunroof CANNOT be opened with the roof rack on. Otherwise it fits as it should.

Hi All,

Thinking of the S5 SB but ease of bike transport really important to me. The pics above are helpful, but can anyone confirm that there is no issues installing something like the thule aero cross bars, and then still being to open the long hatch with racks like the sidearm (above) or proride installed?

Thanks

Many folks do like the Sea Sucker option.

Undortunately niether Whispbar (made by Yakima) nor Thule (who makes the similar Aerobar) have a fitment for the 5 SB that I can find anywhere.

Has anyone had luck with a non-audi rack?
I am going to go with the Thule set up on my 2018 A5. I ordered the Audi rack twice and it's a piece of junk. The first one showed up with a broken lock. I was putting together the second one and the plastic cover pieces mount to the rack via a plastic snap. I was pushing it on gently, not forcing it, and it broke. I'm done with the Audi racks and I'll post pics of the Thule set up when I get it installed.

I just got the Audi rack installed on Saturday. They put it on for me and said I would be able to use my sunroof...but of course they told me otherwise when they brought my A5 SB back out. They felt bad and told me I can return everything if I change my mind. I also got the 300L box but am second-guessing my decision. I see you installed yours over a year ago - did it damage the rubber trim? The dealership advised me to remove it seasonally to avoid permanently stretching the rubber around the doors. I also love my sunroof - did you find it frustrating to not have a usable sunroof? I was hoping to use the box for extra space when traveling and hoping to haul a kayak next summer so I’m disappointed Audi doesn’t have an option that allows use of the sunroof and doesn’t damage the rubber around the windows!
