Default RS5 exhaust tip chipping

Anyone else having this issue? It's only on the passenger side. The car only has 3k miles on it. I wonder if this is a warranty item? They were ceramic coated with the rest of the car when new, and the car has been cleaned normally since new (only hand washing or touchless carwash).

Yep - mine did the same thing - but around 20K miles - dealer said no when I asked if they were covered under warranty - they said they would have to replace the entire exhaust system!!.

You may have better luck since you only have 3K miles....

I just did a quick sanding and then used black, high-temp spray paint

As I already mentioned, I have this on my 2019 with only 18,500 miles.

Thanks guys. Good to know I'm not alone. I'll have to bring it in to the dealer.

Let me know what they say. It never occurred to me to try a warranty claim.

I ended up just masking it off and hit it with a few coats of black high heat bbq paint, and it looks completely fine. The more I read about people getting theirs replaced on other RS models, it seems that the new ones start to flake again (especially if you live in an area where there is salt used in the winter). I'm not going to bother with the time it will take my dealer to figure it out and then hack up the exhaust.

We had a member when I first joined AW who removed his tips, blasted tge chrome off and then had them painted with a black satin finish (IIRC) paint that’s used on guns. The paint has to be baked after application. The final product was stone gorgeous!

This is actually a common issue with exhausts, no matter what the manufacturer, Audi, VW, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, can't remember why but basically the best that can be done is clean as best as possible, I wash mine weekly and knock on wood, after 1 year and close to 27,000km, so far so good, but again, I wash mine every week. Now I did have a golf R prior and didn;t pay as much attention, and they did pit.

I would do that but the tips are welded to the entire muffler. If this was a weekend car, I'd certainly do it but this fix is definitely good enough (you can't tell when standing up looking at them that they have been painted...especially when they get dirty again in a few hundred miles). Lol

I agree, and I've seen complaints on basically every brand's various forums. The only issue I have is that my mileage is super low, I clean my car weekly, and they are still flaking this early...that's very premature.
