Installing the B9.5 Spare Tire Wheel Well Liner in a B9
In this thread someone noticed that the B9.5 cars now have a spare wheel well liner. It was discussed if it could be installed in a B9 car and if so how difficult it would be. I looked it up and on e-acca.com it was $60 so I decided to order one.
It does fit B9 cars and it’s extremely easy to install. I have a 2019 RS5. I thought I’d have to remove the battery and maybe move some of the wires. It was easier than that. All I had to do was remove the subwoofer which is held in place with three screws and disconnect it. The liner is designed to fit over all the existing wiring and screws and has “channels” molded into it to fit over them. The liner is held in place by tabs which fit under the trunk floor trim.
It took me about 30 minutes to install and it was mainly due to adjusting the liner so all the tabs went under the trunk floor and it was aligned properly. I’d suggest doing it somewhere warm so the liner will be easier to manipulate and the trunk floor plastic will be a little softer so fitting the liner tabs underneath will be easier. There were also two pieces I had to remove from the liner to expose the studs for the subwoofer. They’re already perforated so removing them is very easy. You can see the tear drop shaped one at the bottom center of the after photo. The other piece is right next to the subwoofer wires on the left side. I hadn’t removed that one yet one I took the photo.
Now for the before and after pictures.

Thank you for taking the “leap of faith” and posting pictures, it certainly cleans up the floor under the carpet.

Yes, it’s just a molded piece of very thin felt. It doesn’t have any kind of backing to it so it won’t reduce road noise or anything like that. It was shipped to me folded up in a box so I let it sit for a day inside to make sure it unfolded fully.
It really does make the area look nicer and for $60 all in, it’s pretty cost effective too I think.
Very nice John. I was actually wondering if it muffles the RS exhaust. Seems like it doesn’t, which is what I was hoping as the exhaust note is pretty sweet to listen to.

Nope, it has no sound deadening properties that I could detect.
