Default What pressure do you run in 265/30/20 tires?

Hello,

I've put on my summers 20*9.5 w/265/30/20 Michellins. Tire shop has set the pressure to 40psi. It seems like the car is too harsh.
I was wondering what others are running on these tires.

Thanks.

Recommended pressure for normal load (up to 2/3 people) is 41 front and 38 rear for that tire size for the S5 SB. It's 33 front and back for the A5 SB, so technically you could lower a few psi and just watch for any unusual tire wear and rotate.

Recommended pressure should also be adjusted based on load capacity of the new tires v the OEM spec if different. Check the drivers door tire pressure plate for the OEM load carry spec.

Look at the XL chart as the tires are likely XL.

I always use the normal load (up to 2/3 people) for inflation. As noted above the air pressure also depends on the load rating on the tire. In the USA, the door jamb air pressure is only listed for Max load.

If the tires are 265/30/20, load rating 94Y on a 2018/2019 S5, then the 41 psi Front, 38psi Rear makes sense at normal load and cold.

My RS5 SB came with 275/30/20, load rating 97Y, so the 38 psi Front, 32psi Rear makes sense at normal load and cold.

What pressure do you recommend for 275/30/20 on a 2018 S5 sportback?

I'd follow the pressure listed in the manual (see post above) for the 275/30R20 RS5 SB

The instructions from the US manual for the 2018 model show totally different information than my door sticker

We all use our cars differently, so I want to add some nuance to the advice above. As everyone else has said, start with the pressures in your manual for your specific combination of vehicle, wheel and tire size. That will work fine for most people. However, if you want to maximize handling, here are some links that discussed how to fine tune your tire pressures to maximize traction for the best handling in corners:

This link describes a simple way to tweak your tires pressures to maximize traction:

This link provides detail about what you are actually doing and why its important:

Hi Dan. Thanks a lot for the links you sent. Since I don't have time right now I just took a quick peek at the links you sent, it looks very interesting. I m looking forward to read it tonight.
Before I asked on the forum about tire pressure for 265/30r20 I couldn't find anything about 20 inch wheels in the original manual. In the section where tire pressure is mentioned, the manual directed me to the door sticker where i can read about the pressures but there is no 20 inch also.
I am sure I will read interesting things in the links you sent. I'll get back to this thread later. Thank you once again

Check out the tire pressure list shared by the Audi Tech when I got my new S5.
This is for the summer tires that come on with the Audi and not Michelin tires.
Personal experience coming from 40 wall thickness tire to 265/30/R20, was a harsh reality. Do not like the 30s.
