so is the general consensus so far that drone’s remote start platform is an ideal solution? i’ve been debating adding one but something about the sacrificial key just irks me...

It's the most capable, and cheapest option. Also the most versatile.
Compustart updates their modules with their KLON capability overtime, and if they do it with ours, you will be able to download and upload fob Information and not have to sacrifice a fob.

Even with a new fob and programming, it is still cheaper than the 12 Volt Solutions option.

As I said earlier in this thread — the Drone has been successful in my last car for about the 3 years I owned the car, as well as the almost 2 years that the current owner has used it. Having just installed the latest version of both the hardware and software, they’ve made tremendous improvements.

As far as the “sacrificial” key — any Japanese or German car with an immobilizer requires it for security and safety. The $244 for the transmitter (if I’d have known that was all I needed) was not a deal breaker for me, but YMMV.

Sorry if this has already been answered, how do I go about purchasing the SIM from Drone Mobile? Does is come with the X1 Max? I’m planning on buying the X1 Max from ebay.

I dont see the SIM as an option on their website. Is it when I go to purchase a data plan? Also curious which data plan you guys went with thanks!

See Post #53.
The X1 Max LTE comes with an ATT card. You can call Drone Mobile to get a Verizon card for a fee.

Choose whichever plan suits you before the end of your trial with Drone below.

This photo shows what we did as far as the “sacrificial” transmitter in the bypass box: We completely pulled the battery tray and the physical key out of the transmitter before burying the by-pass box:

Bare transmitter without battery tray or physical key

If you are looking to install the remote start but don’t / can’t sacrifice the second factory key, just order the bare transmitter (part number is on page 2 of this thread).

After some trial (and errors) in getting the correct t thermistor for the remote start system we installed in the S5, I’m happy to say that between @BreedsAs and my installer, we have identified the correct part (ACC-TEMP 1) that is connected into the CMWXAO module to display the correct temperature. As the photo below shows, the Drone Software is displaying the correct in car temperature and no longer reading single digit temperatures — therefore, not automatically turning on the butt-warmers!

Thanks for updating me and everyone else John. Crazy how much off the original (wrong) thermistor was. I am tired of my seat warmers turning on too.
Ordering the correct one now.

Are you folks still keeping this thermistor in the cubby in the trunk or are you extending it into the cabin somewhere?

It's only so long. You can probably get this new one into the cabin of the trunk through the door on the left side of the trunk compartment.
That's it.
