Default 16985 ECU Memory Checksum Error

Hi all,

I've been reading up on this code to see what my options are. I'm wondering if anyone's got any current news on this problem.

I had a dahlback chip that's been in the car since 2004. I'm suddenly getting this code, and from what I've been able to tell it can't be cleared. After clearing all codes, it was back the next morning.

Rosstech wiki says: 1) Bad ECU, 2) Low voltage, 3) Bad aftermarket chip.

I'm unaware of any low voltage problems, but I haven't really checked either. The car always starts perfectly. Original batteries, though.

I could have them swap the chip out to test that. I guess I need to do that anyway.

I'll call the dealer for a price on a new one. Not that I want to know!

This is a problem with the coding of the ECU. The checksum has nothing to do with the functional coding, it only verifies that whatever code is present is legitimate. It sounds like the values somehow got corrupted. I'd get on the phone with your tuner.
