Default 2.5 mph difference

Just purchased and installed a set of Michelin Pilot sport a/s. 225/55/17. Car now pulls to the right and has a 2.5mph difference in speed( GPS navigation). I have read in the forums of going to the 245/50/17 as a closer size to the original. Any others have this problem? Any feedback on the 2 sizes would be great.

Yep, in the Pilot Sport A/S, the 245/50-17 is the closer match to stock diameter.

Default Sport A/S will cause pull to right; tires too tall.....

The pull to the right is the reason that Michelin refunded my $$ on my Sport A/S tires. Michelin tech people told me that the tire is "too advanced for most cars and can cause what feels like a pull". Mercedes has a service bulletin out which states that this tire is NOT approved for use on any Mercedes because they cause a pull!

And as I indicated in my email the other day, the 225/55 Michelin is taller than any other 225/55 tire on the market... though it shouldn't be.

But does the 245/50/17 have the same pulling to the right? Or does it seem to track better than the 225/55/17?

Thanks

Default Tires

I put larger tires on my S-10 blazer and it threw my speedo off 5 mph at highway speeds. Confirmed with GPS. This is nice because it reads 5mph slower than I'm going so my odometer doesn't click as fast. It reads 95,xxx right now and who knows how much over 100,000 it really is because I changed tires at 36,000 miles. It's really strange that you have to go with a 245/50-17 in order to get the same size as a 55. I have the pilot sports on my A4 and I have been very happy with them. I haven't noticed any pull with them but mine are on my A4. So we are talking about two diferent cars.

Default Too advanced my butt

No way do I buy their line "our tire is too advanced for most cars" BS. A tire is a very complex device in construction, but VERY simple in its use. If it can't be driven on a MB or an AR then they've done something truly bizzare in building it. Actually, what car could it be designed for? Mclaren F1? Enzo?

Because the Pilots are woefully overpriced, French, and having questionable performance I don't have to worry about ever having these problems - plenty of better choices out there.

Default To all with a pull to the right- call Michelin Customer Service....

they are fully aware of the Mercedes Service Bulletin. The tires cause a pull to the RIGHT in all cases.

In my case, they initially put up a bit of a fuss, then offered to replace the tires with any other Michelin, BFG, Uniroyal product. But in either the 225/55 or the 245/50 size, there is not another tire they make. So they gave me full credit, including mouting, balancing and tax, toward any other tire I bought. The credit was through Discount Tire where I purchased the Michelins. Got my 245/45-18 F1 GS-D3 with the credit.

Give Michelin a call and raise a fuss.

Default Re: 2.5 mph difference

Well after a bit more reading of post's and a bit of complaing, I have got Michelin to refund me completly and have ordered a set of Falkin 512's. I hope these do the trick, cause those Michelin's SUCKED.
