Local dealership wants ~$300 for a rebuilt, i'm checking into local salvage yards and been looking at googled websites claiming they sell them refurbs and such, and ebay has been not helpful finding a single one. The car died on me two days ago, got a free replacement battery and it reads 12V, drove the car about 1 mile down the road and dropped it with a european car restoration mechanic who knows his stuff. Was just thinking since he won't be finding one until Monday maybe this weekend I could look around for one. He tells me it's 140amp, all the times I searched the internet before now for a allroad alternator it came up with 120amp, but I trust him. When I searched ebay for a 140amp it gave me a volvo xc alt.

Ideas? I'm now regretting dropping it off, by tonight I could have ripped the old one out. (dropped it 8 hrs ago)

look in your local phone book for an alternator re builder.

Take it out.. give it to them.. they fix what's wrong for so much less than new. Usually in 1-2 days.
