Default 2005 Allroad 2.7 twin turbo

I am currently looking at purchasing a 2005 Allroad, 2.7 V6 with the bi-turbo to replace my current 1999 A6. I have heard there were some transmission issues associated with Allroads and the bi-turbo and have had some hesitation in the past with making the purchase. But I really want to get into an Allroad. I love the wagon!

The car I'm looking at has 70k miles. I have to drive up and down a mountain everyday for work. I take very good care of my cars (the A6 is in great condition with 145k miles, and I'm only willing to replace it with another Audi). I do most of the work myself, with some of the major work performed by my trusted mechanic who only works on MB and Audi's.

Can anyone substantiate or debunk my fear about the transmission issues and the 2.7L bi-turbo

Thanks,

Trans issues are with the tiptronic - NOT the 6MT.

That said, it's my understanding that the design & parts were slightly updated in mid-2004 to address the issue. Trans on a 2005 shouldn't be an issue, assuming you keep the motor stock.

Sorry,

I can not debunk that myth... just rebuilt the tranny and replaced the turbos in the past 2 months. I still love the car. If I were to do it over, I would definitely wiat for a 6 speed.... No tip worries and when the turbos do go, you will not be afraid to upgrade to K04's.

Does the V8 use a different tranny, or is it just because the V8 was only an option in 04 & 05, so the majority of them were built with the newer seal?

I've been told that it's a beefier tranny.I have almost 189k on mine.I don't baby it at all I even do alot of towing. If you're not doing a lot of mods go for the V8.Less maintenance, better upgrades, better sound.

Well please don't laisen to all various comments about the AR Transmission. There is some problems may be went hardly used but if you had good yield with your old A6 and the way you use your car you should not have any problem with the AR especialy with the 2005. I have a 2003 which is already over 120k and it is working well. I am not a smooth driver but neither a speedway racer. I am using my AR to tow a Travel trailer of more then 4000# and the trany is working just find. So don't worry about the "pseudo" trany problem on the "object of your dream" ....just go with your feeling.
Ciao.....
