Is 20mm too low for 402 mod?

Please excuse the dirty car and wheels![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I've searched the subject extensively on these great forums, and it seems like there is no harm done to the suspension. After lowering the front and rear 20mm and on level 1, the front suspension squeaks badly when moving (sounds like rubber, umm... rubbing together). Level 2 does not have this noise. If I am on level 1 and drive while raising to level 2, the squeaking stops about halfway during the process.
Has anyone else noticed the same noise? Could it be as simple as the sway bar bushings (OEM)? I fear it may be something in the air suspension. I typically drive on level 3 or 2, but would like to go down when desired, especially once I get some larger wheels.

Most likely either sway bar bushings as you mentioned. Easily remedied w/little spray lube. Or one of the suspension links or tie rod ends. See if you can have some one push up and down on the front corners on the car and see if you can hone on where exactly its coming from. Squeaks sometimes "Travel" and are sometimes hard to pin down. Also if you have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth (45 degrees) while you observe the upper links (in a higher position) is a good way to see if one of the ball/socket joints on an upper link is worn. There should be no lateral movement.
20mm seems too low to me that's over 3/4 of an inch.

as soon as I can get my pro-diag working again, I plan to raise back up to 10mm down or so.
at 20 down every bump seems to go right to the bump stops, and I find myself using levels 2 & 3 all the time.
that said 20 down seems to be about the perfect level for me at the track.

I think that stance does look pretty good (your pic). I doubt that it is the sway bar. I would throw it on a rack and see what is close to rubbing (the bag maybe so far collapsed that it is pushing into something? Bumpstops? I know some have dropped lower.

I have mine 20mm down right now too (atlas & dual spokes!) but yours looks lower...
I've noticed that the computer rarely makes accurate adjustments based on your input, I always double check with a yard stick.
I have had no trouble at all with a 20mm drop, except maybe a mushy feeling suspension.

Keep in mind the 402 is the virtual distance from the center of the wheel to the apex of the fenderwell. Make sure you measure each wheel first before you adjust the 402 in VAGCOM... then when you set each wheel, account for the fact that difference from your first measurement. Ex: if you measure the left front and it measures 390mm in Level 2... and you want to drop it 20mm from stock... you need to type in 394 into the Left Front... this accounts for the 12mm that it was off, and the 20mm drop you desire...
If you didn't measure first, and just put in the 382 for your 20mm drop, you would actually be at 370 or -32mm from the stock setting... and you would be having some squeaking for sure.

I never thought of the fact someone may have already modified the 402 measurement before me, or that it may have never been verified before the fact as being correct. When performing the mod, I wanted it to sit 20mm lower than it actually was. I like how it sits on level 1 now, but I will check to see how low I am sitting versus 402mm. If my car was NOT lowered previously, I should measure 382mm (give or take a few).

Of course the ride is horrible and it will sit on the bumpstops, but no noise at 25mm? That's what gets me about my situation. As I posted below, I will have to check the actual measurement to see if I am actually sitting 20mm lower than 402mm or more.
No noise once I start to raise from level 1, so the chance of it being a tierod or another such link is low in my mind.

1552 closed down when I left in 2003. Brad had plans to re-open but ended up moving to California to run VF Engineering. He recently moved back to Florida and opened www.b-p-design.com
So the only 1552 shirts still around are the the 10 or so in my closet, collecting dust because XXXL is way too big for me now
