I can't find my desired wheels in 19" (at least at a price I can afford; Hartmann is selling them but more than twice the price).

Looks like I am stuck with 18x8.0.

The tires I have in mind are 255/45 (still a lot of rubber height; 115mm sidewall compared to stock 124mm).

They are 7mm larger in diameter than our 225/55x17 stock; on purpose (I run 25mm lower, and do NOT like the hugely uneven 'gap' between top (very narrow) and front/rear of tire/fender. 7mm is not much, but anything helps.

Will they look stupid (like an inflated sausage) on those 8.0 wide rims?

Math: tires are 30mm wider (15 front and back) than stock, rims are 12mm wider (6mm front/back). Result: tires 'hang' over the rims 9mm more compared to stock.

Alternative:
245/45x18 ('stock' upgrade size; not phat at all). 4mm more 'hang over' than stock (2mm SMALLER diameter than current stock).

Darn those flimsy 18 inchers.
