2001 allroad 2.7T 6 speed. when trying to really punch it in second gear after completely letting up on the clutch, the engine will rev really high for a couple of seconds almost as if I am hitting the gas with the clutch in, but then winds down a little bit and feels like it is engaging for a second time before it really takes off. Is this just the turbo kicking in?

Under extreme hard excell.. if I din;t let 2 or three bite 100% then it would slip.... The clutch or pressure plate.
Fortunatly..if you are under 50K miles.. its all warranty.

Manual transmissions are a direct connection in that engine rpm and wheel speed are directly proportional. The "winds down" is the clutch finally engaging. I'm a tip man myself, but in my old Triumph TR-6 the clutch friction material was riveted (some use a bonding material) on to the clutch plate (disk?). If you start to feel the clutch slip it was sliding on the rivets. If you didn't fix it quickly, it would scar up the pressure plate and/or flywheel. Just for info, normally you replace the throw out bearing when you do the clutch. Some forum members have done their clutch so you may want to search and see if this is a do it yourself project.
I did a quick search and URL is a good thing to help diagnose your problem.

https://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/84800.phtml</a

then put it in 1st and let the clutch out. If it immediately stalls the clutch is good if it doesn't the clutch is bad.
