6 speed question

Default Somebody here mentioned putting the car in 6th gear and

then dumping the clutch. They said "you'd know" if your clutch was going bad.

I did this and the car instantly stalled. Did not buck, shimmy, anything. May have move 3 inches.

Am hoping this means my clutch is fine, but any commentary would be welcome.

That is an indication of a good clutch. When I was much younger (like 12 or 13) and working in a junk yard we would use 3rd gear (not many cars had 4 gears back then, 3 on a tree most common)or pull the car up to a tree and let the clutch out. If the car stalled we had a good one. We could then proceed to have fun with that car for a while :-)

If the clutch slips the clutch pedal would rise and the engine would keep running. The higher the pedal before the stall, the more worn the clutch or more out of adjustment. Now adays we have self adjusting clutches so they are good, going or bad.
