Default 60,000 Maintenance Due - Dealer or Indie

i picked up a '03 CPO allroad last year that has 1.5yrs remaining on the extended warranty and is coming up on 60K and i've got a newbie question:

do i HAVE to take the AR to the dealer to perform the maintenance in order to maintain the warranty OR can i go to an indie and still maintain the warranty. can i also take care of some of the little stuff myself (like the oil change)?

thnx.

Default USA laws state you don't have to go to a dealer for service...

to keep a waranty. This includes CPO.

IIRC, its only an oil change..SYNTHETIC is a must.

Go to www.audifaq.com for a listing of all scheduled serivces. I would also find a good Audi Savy Indy to check the car out while you are under CPO.

Default I went the dealer route throughout cpo coverage.

My belief is that it helps down the road. Having a relationship with a good service advisor helped as I shopped the second Audi (running VIN's for service history) and how warranty work was written up. Plus, my Indy is very busy and not that convienent....an oil change would be 2 hours out of my day vs dropping the car and grabbing a loaner. But definately take it to the indy before CPO runs out for a full inspection.

Default Use your Indie if they are priced better and keep your receipts

in case you ever need to prove that the car was properly serviced.

Default 60k Service in Jan. cost $265.16 at dealer, included Syn. oil & cab filter.

$144.55 Labor
$ 99.67 Parts
$ 14.46 Enviromental fees
$ 6.48 Tax
-------
Indy' has to be cheaper.

Default One advantage of the dealer doing the work........

it's in the Audi data base. A buyer can take the VIN to an Audi dealer and research the maintenance actions performed. When it comes time to sell a prospective buyer can see the work was performed by competent* technicians. The buyer may not be impressed by an indy having done the work.

Just another perspective.

He'll appreciate the indy route a lot more once he has to start paying for service visits...
