The 6000 pound GVW debate ...
Hey everyone -
I'm currently an A4 owner and just recently incorporated my business. My accountant says the 6000 pound GVW exemption will still exist in 2004.
Does anyone have a definitive answer as to whether the Allroad meets the 6000 pound limit?
I've searched the archives and it seems as though some people are confusing curb weight with GVW. They are not the same. It's my understanding that curb weight is just the car, sitting there. GVW is the car loaded to full capacity with maximum amount of gear, people, and fluid.
If anyone knows for sure I would greatly appreciate it.
Since buying my A4 in 1999 I have also driven Land Rovers and BMWs. Neither of them handle, ride, or possess the convenience and comfort that my A4 does. I'm contemplating the Toureg, but would still rather buy the real thing. An ALLROAD!
Thanks again,
Brad

Yes, and they are going to do away with the weight limitation, you get a one time 9/11 write off for
first year vehicle purchase. I think it's a grand total of 7200. So you should be good to go on total write off if you lease your vehichle to your business from yourself. Or lease it directly.

Here's the link again -- about $32500 off the first year for qualifying vehicles
The ar is too light but many others including the VW Touareg make the cut.

https://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/66730.phtml</a

No dice for the allroad
Check your door sticker, I recall it's about 5600 lbs GVW. Section 179 of the tax code (and the expanded depreciation write off that Bush signed into law in late May) only applies to vehicles over 6000 GVW. Nothing Audi makes fits the bill. Get a Cayanne or Toureg, unless of course you want a stick, then you're SOL.
