628 removal. Impressions and one process related problem/question... (as always long)

Took it out yesterday. Haven't gone on a big twisty drive yet, but I can tell steering feel is much improved, and car feels more direct and connected to the ground. It's as night and day as the H-sport mod.
It is, however, surprisingly stiff while parking. I believe I'll get used to it and and that will make this mod a no-brainer, but it is going to take some getting used to. I have a hard time buying into the conventional wisdom that this is how our cars are sold in europe. Maybe in Germany, where women are strong and the men courageous.
Here's my question/problem:
When pulling the lower dash panel, I undid the two bolts as reccommended, and then the upper bolt that's next to the fuse panel - it made it easier to pull the panel down. The problem is that when I bolted everything back up, the gap under the headlight dial looked bigger than before, and I don't know how to close it: Here are some pics:

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/100134/dashpanel3.jpg">
I'm worried I tweaked the panel somewhere. I need to fully remove the lower panel and see what I can do, but I STFA'd and couldn't find a writeup on completley seperating the lower panel. I think I need a Bentley Manual.
Any suggestions?
THanks

behind the panel toward the top should be several tabs which snap into metal "c" clips which are on the dash. check that they are lined up and give the panel a good smack to set back into correct depth and alignment. (This is how my TT and A6 are anyways)

, and will probably get mounted to the left side of the steering column. At least that's the plan for a few weeks from now, time permitting...<ul><li><a href="http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062534&cp=2032058.2032230 .2032278&parentPage=family">switch</a></li></ul>
