Default EDL won't work from a stand still, or if you're not moving. I don't know why, I just know, must be

because it's tied into ABS so when ABS shuts down so does EDL.

That said, I don't know why you couldn't put the emergency brake on, put car in drive(with engine running), and climb under to see if either front tranny/transaxle output shaft flanges is spinning. You would think with a broken CV joint 1 would be spinning wouldn't it?

Default Not 100% correct......

You are correct in theory, but with a properly functioning drivetrain that's not a possibilty.

If you apply throttle your wheels will rotate, which will either move the car or spin the wheels. If your wheels are spinning ABS and EDL go active (ABS sensors show motion). So in reality, EDL can work while the car is actually sitting still.

Default It doesn't work though, and it must be because without "all" the wheels turning the ABS doesn't

activate. Just go out, and get stuck once, and you'll see what I mean. : )

Theory stuff doesn't mean much to me at all, I'd much rather have a real world situation. If someone could figure out how to have EDL active from a complete standstill(being stuck without any movement besides the wheels that happen to be spinning because your stuck, which won't be more then 2) I'm all ears.

Default Interesting! All I know..... **EDITED**

....from the 10 quattro's I've owned...momentum is the key to quattro

Sounds like EDL was working fine from your explaination though. EDL doesn't grab and never let go...that doesn't work with TorSen. If it did that all driveline torque would be drawn to the "braked" wheels. Thus, EDL just pulses the brakes..off..on...off...on really quickly. Think of it as a torque duty cycle.

If you had two wheel spinning EDL was working; if EDL wasn't working then you would have had only had one wheel spinning (beyond the TorSen bias). You didn't get out for two reasons 1) because the "duty cycle torque" wasn't high enough to spin the "stuck" wheel(s) and 2) the available tire grip at the spinning wheels wasn't enough to overcome the "stuck" resistance (pull the car out).

You'll have to feed me the "stuck" stories. I haven't gotten stuck yet and more than once I've driven in snow over my tires....just drove fast with lots of gas. :-)
