AC not working - low side pressure

My AC has stopped working. Put the guages on and am getting 35LBS on the low side. My mechanic said that it should be enough for the compressor to kick on. Does anyone know if this is too low or just right?

That's a good low side pressure with the compressor running. Corresponds to 40 degrees F at the evaporator for R134a refrigerant.
