airbag control module - 65535 error, then fixed, now 65535 again!
2001 Allroad 2.7T, U.S. model importing into Canada. Airbag warning light stays on, VAG-COM 3.11 said:

So...I need another control module, probably. Quoted $900 CAD via EUROPE, 2 weeks! Yikes. Airbag Systems in Texas claims to be able to FIX any airbag module for $100 (you pay for shipping to them). So I sent it, got it back, 1 week total (incl. a weekend). Shop installed it, said the airbag light was still on, so I brought over my laptop & ran VAG-COM again.
This time I got an error code on system 1:

P1602 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

I don't remember now if there was a code in the airbags at this point - if so, I cleared it and it didn't come back. I cleared this code above & tried the car - no airbag light! Good...all done.
Shop put back together the whole center section, drove the car around to the front... AIRBAG LIGHT IS BACK ON!
Now there's the 65535 code again, slightly different:

Airbag Systems says that the Audi modules are made cheaply, but it was tested & working before he sent it out. He'll look at it again if I pay for shipping both ways, or he'll refund my money.
So... any ideas based on this info? If I get a brand new module, will I be blowing that one after installing? Try a used one instead? Fix it again & see what happens?
Maybe a wiring problem? The shop owner (known for many years) says Bentley doesn't give wiring info needed to trace that kind of a problem...
Personally, I know very little about cars, but something about computers, so I got a laptop going with VAG-COM (cheap eBay cable, registered 3.11 Ross-tech software). I chose the closest match for the Auto-detect - "A6 C5". Was that a problem?
Any thoughts/suggestions/advice appreciated - thanks!

Identical story here, I replaced the control module with a used one and no issues since.
Look for a used one at www.car-part.com, shokan, etc.
Or a new one, 4 times more expensive.
You will have to recode the new (for you) one.

Re: Identical story here, I replaced the control module with a used one and no issues since.
I started down that path, then found this place that offered "guaranteed" repaired modules, and no recoding since it'd be the same module going back in...
See if I have the gist of it right - if the used part number is identical, then I shouldn't need recoding? Or is it that it needs recoding where I save the coding of the old one, put in the 'new' used one, reset the coding to the saved value...
Thought I had heard/read somewhere that if I replace my module with one that has a different part # that I couldn't re-code it myself with my little VAG-COM 3.11 software, but the dealer would need to do that.
How close am I to right on any of the above? Thanks for the reply!

Re: recoding - easy with VAG-COM, or dealer, or...??
Oops - forgot I had created the r0cc0 account already, but my home computer didn't!
LKQ in Oregon has one for $125 + shipping, but I'm just holding off until I can verify this recoding thing...
Thanks!
