Default airbag light question

while driving into work this morning noticed the airbag light on. Tried the ol' standby....turn the car off and on, still on. Searched the forums on a cause but the only culprit I found was a faulty module. I'll vag it tonight when I get home. Any thoughts from anyone? also with the idiot light on, does this mean my airbags are inoperable? I'd look in my manual but it's at home doing me no good here at work.

Default Mine has been on and off the past few months...........

I had Ed hook up his vag-com to do a full scan but for 2001 model you have to manually check to scan the airbags. It had some warning message about selecting the airbag scan so we left it alone. I just need to stop at the dealer, next time the light comes on.

Default Mine seems to come on when it's cold out. Once the car is warmed

up the light goes out.

Default Something to check

Have you been messing around under the seat fishing something out from under there. Many times the connector under the seat becomes unseated and this will trigger the light. I don't know if the car disables the airbag system when the light is on but I do know that it has detected a fault and that could mean that your bags may not deploy in an accident.

Default Greig, hate to say it " Autohaus". Safety issue, may not be worth it too...

let it go. My wife said she saw an 'Olympic' a couple weeks back, Pioneer and Fruitland about 6pm think it was Mon/Tue. Was it you?

Default I'm going to vag it when I get home. After Sennister...

mentioned the seats, I was messing with the back seat last night trying to pinpoint a creak so I'm wondering if I did something to something. (my way of explaing things I know nothing about) like pulling a harness apart. Otherwise I'll take it to the dealer.

Pioneer and Fruitland? definately could have been. I have a friend building a house right down there and I've been helping him on my spare time

Default My neck of the woods...

118th off 78th ave. I think the plugs have keeper clips on them, to keep them from coming unplugged (but, still could happen). I know for a fact VW uses the clipped plugs ('03 GTI). If it is unplugged you may want to consider disconnecting the battery as not to send quick current to the bag and a possible chance of blowing the bag (it has happend). Totally gutted the GTI and had to disconnect all bags. Upon completion I had no faults. First thing disconnected the battery,,,,last reconected it.
