Default Airbag Suspension Problem

I'm having a problem, which from the search I did, sounds familiar to a lot of you.
I have a leak in one of the airbags in the suspension system. Before someone says it, I did do a search and found a few general answers, but nothing specific.
My question is what would it take to fix this myself? While I'm not a car wiz, I do have a friend who runs an Audi/VW repair shop. Can the bag be fixed? Or is replacement the only way to go? If replacement is the way to go, can I get a bag used...should I? And the big question...Is there a resource online that shows the step-by-step process to repair this problem.
My friend is willing to try but has little AR experience. Thanks!

Default answers...

cheter@riversideaudi.com will sell you a airpsing for 15% over dealer cost. I paid about 325.00 for it plus the O ring/hardware kit for about $10.00. Most indy shops charge about 2 to 2.5 hours per corner for the install.

You can buy used but I don't believe it makes sense to do it. You can DIY, but you need a 12 star male tool and have to deal with the dreaded pinch bolt. Let your freind do the job.

Search on audiworld and perhaps www.allroadfaq.com for some install guides, but it is fairly simple.

Cool to hear it's actually possible to DIY though ... despite the potential headaches

Default OT - I see in your sig you have the Falken 912. How do you like them

I am planning on jumping up to 17" rims in the spring with these tires. TIA

Default they hold the road very well, a bit firmer in turns than the 512 they replaced.

So far wear seems good but its really to soon to tell.

I DIY'd my front left a couple of years ago. No pinch bolt problems so about 1-1/2 hour job.

Default thanks - I have the 451's as my summer tire right now and they are a

good tire for their price point, they hold the road well and I like them much better than the Yoko ES100 I had before.

Default You can still do it and avoid the pinch bolt.

There is more stuff to undo but for many it will be easier and less stressful as it avoids the dreaded pinch bolt.

The 12 point tool can be obtained from Autozone.

If, however, you are not confident in your abilities Paulroad is right to say that your friend should do it.

Speaking of which I need to phone Carson and order another bag for when the FL goes out soon.

Cheers
Gregor
