Default All Cylinders misfiring

One week ago I changed two coil packs on my 03 AR. Before that the engine started shaking under acceleration and CEL came on (solid). I scanned for the faults and it showed cylinders 2 and 5 misfiring. Those are the ones that I replaced.

Everything was fine until today, the engine started shaking again and this time the CEL was flashing and never turned solid. I had to drive about 15 miles to get home and when I finally got home I scanned for the faults - it showed all 6 cylinders misfiring. I erased the faults and started the car again, run it for 2 minutes. The CEL was flashing again and when I scanned it showed that only cylinder 4 was misfiring.

Do you guys think that CP#4 is the problem or it could be something more complicated? Is this a usual thing that three CP's can fail basically within one week?

Default Plug in the VAG and run the car at speed, IIRC, channel 015 and 016 will give

you a read out of misfire for each cylinder, don't trust it at idle, they all misfire at idle speed.

Find the culprit while driving with the VAG, since the CP's are grounded by the engine/chassis, usually one bad CP has a following CP, mostly the very next cylinder in line.

So when 2 show misfire at idle, it is usually only the one with the higher misfire count but it will need replacement a.s.a.p because it could trigger to fault the CP next to it......don't ask me why but BTDT ;-)

Consider CP's as wear and tear items, they do fail but not as much as in the 3.0 or 1.8T engines.

Default

Try swapping the CP with one of the known good ones and see if the fault follows the suspect CP...

Default CP4 is the problem...

when one misfires, the system attempt to correft it by adjusting timing all over. This results in the code for all cylinders missfiring butr the caus is only the one with the code.

At this point a dealer would replace all the remaining CPs. I just paid about 23.00 each from carson@riversideaudi.com

Default Dealer ended up replacing all eight coil packs on my car. By the way...

...if the new coil pack has black plastic, it is NOT the latest upgraded replacement part. The correct ones should have red-orange plastic.

Default Based on the below info, you may want to try one of the ones you previously...

replaced. Both may not have been bad. May be worth the effort.
