Allroad annoying starting problem

I have a 2003 allroad with an annoying intermittent starting problem. The car always starts when it is cold, but now and again and always when you least need it to, it will not start. Normally this will occur after it has been driven for a short while and then I’ll stop at the shops or something similar and it will crank, but not fire. It hasn’t thrown an error code and was wondering if anyone else had the same issue. To resolve I either leave the car for 30 – 45 minutes come back and it always starts, sit in the car lock it and let the alarm go off and then turn the alarm off with the key and normally the car will start or use the key and put the windows down with the key which I think somehow reprograms the key. The batteries in the keys are ok as I had them tested. No too sure if it is an immobiliser issue, or some other sensor. Any theories most welcome.
