I live in Australia and after many complaints Audi fitted a prototype transmission ECU to try and correct the problem. My first impression is that it performed better but after a couple of months I don't think there is much difference. In my view it is definetly a safety issue.

Look we have covered this to death and frankly I don't mind coving it again but if you're really interested in the subject a through review of the archive will give you a lot of info. Search for BTL - Brake Throttle Lag and you should see lots of stuff.
Now as far as speculation goes lets put some things to rest....
GIAC tip Chip won't help
Flashing the TCM won't help
Sport mode won't help
00032 tranny coding - won't help
Letting the tranny adapt won't help
ECU chip won't help (unless someone figures a way to disable the feature)
This is a systemic problem introduced by coding in the DBW / ECU with the Automatic tranny. Because of nonsense of "unintended acceleration" Audi decided to code this feature to keep the car from full power if the brakes are applied - we know how stupid auto drivers are right? The DBW system uses data from a number of systems to activate this feature but as we all know we can get it to induce by doing the stop and immediate throttle on (showMeData is using the technique that I think most savvy people have figured out).
Now this doesn't make this any nicer but it is inherent. It's in the 4.2 as well but it's much more noticeable on the turbo because when it's happening you get NO boost at all. Other recent DBW Audi's with TIP have it too. I know some owners will say "not my car" as if Audi somehow coded their ECU special.
Now Getting AOA to admit that they have done this would be a trick since that would mean that they are worried about UA issues - they can't as they have (as I ) said that no UA issue ever existed and I can't remember a case where it was proved.... but I digress.
This could be taken out of the ECU DBW coding but no chip tuner ever gets that involved in the coding so it's back to Bosch....
As you were.

You old timers will remember... he sued Audi and IIRC he got them to take the allroad back because of the dangerous throttle lag.
