Allroad Transmission problems?

Have had my '01 Allroad at the dealership for a few days. They 'determined' the transmission is shot and needs to be replaced. The car's got only 55k on it. Anyone else experienced this problem? Or any other ideas what could be wrong? What happens is when it is put into reverse on an incline the RPM's rev up but the car will not move.

Thanks NT. However I need to follow up with Audi first. The dealership stated this is the first time they have seen this problem. I cannot accept this answer as the car is highway driven and garaged and has never been abused nor driven off road. If anyone recalls, I had a problem with my 1998 A6 regarding the fuel gauge - it took a year for Audi to determine the gauges were defective and there was a recall. However I suffered with the problem for a whole year. I'll not be that naive again. Thats why I'm inquiring if anyone else has had this latest issue. Thanks for the info though.

Yep. Car has been fully serviced by the dealership like clockwork. But to be 100% sure I'll have them check their own records also. Thanks!

Latest update. Via the dealership the regional rep agreed to pay 75% and I would pay 25% of costs to replace transmission. I contacted AudiUSA to establish a file with the Consumer Advocate. Advocate checked file, talked with dealership, determined that the regional rep had already 'made a decision' so there was nothing further they could do. Next step is to talk or meet directly with the regional rep which must be done via the dealership since the rep is a direct Audi employee [follow the yellow brick road]. The 'explanation' regarding the failure of the transmission given to the Audi Advocate by the dealership was that they could Not Determine the cause of the failure. The transmission is a sealed unit and all they could determine from the diagnostic test was a code indicating it had failed. No way to determine whether a defect of the automobile or an 'external influence'. Makes no sense to me that the transmission failed at 55k and no one is able to determine the cause of failure - yet I am to pay $1,200 towards its repair [made worse by the fact that there is less than 5 months to the lease]. I guess the dealership will have to continue to provide me a loaner car until some firm answers are provided. One other fact - the car has been into the shop a number of times due to a loud whining sound which 'appeared' to be turbo related. The car continues to 'whine' when in neutral and after it was garaged and the engine turned off. Dealership is unable to determine the cause of that one. Related or coincidence???
