Default allroad turbo failure

Newbie on this forum. I won't go into details of my long story - but our allroad had a turbo failure, resulting in a lot of oil being sucked into the intercooler hose. The warranty had just expired. Both turbos were replaced - Audi of America covered the cost of the turbos, but no other parts and no labour.

The end result is I've got a $7400 CAD bill for a car with 89K km.

2 questions: is turbo failure common? and why were so many other parts required to replace 2 turbos? example, 2 camshaft adjusters were replaced etc. etc.

Grateful for any help...

Default You do NOT have to replace the cam adjusters to do that....sounds like they...

...took advantage of you; or you're leaving out part of the story.

Default Turbo falures are a common occurance with turbo motors..

Its just like a starter, or a power sterring pump..some go some don't, nommater how good you are..or aren't. The specifiction is is one goes both get replaced.

Removing the engine is the normal way to do it. While it out they can see all about the engine..
Perhaps the turbos were the symptom and something else happend?

But...the labor portion of the turbo job is 21 hours ad to this about 3 hours for the cam adusters and alignment of your wheels (required) and the worst case is 25 hours?..what is your labor rate in CA?

Default It would be a great time to replace the camshaft adjuster *seals*

And there are numerous other things that should be done "while you are in there" which probably explains your lengthy parts list. Without more information it is hard to tell how badly you got ripped off. Unfortunately best case scenario is that the dealer did the job to spec and you still get ripped off as the dealer retail parts price and labor rate is so high. You should never let a dealer do this kind of work on your car.

Default Common as in it has happened to others and people know to ask about it..

It is not an issolated issue as it does happen. Me, Dangerman (x2), and a few others I think on the ar forum , then add to this the A6 board and the reckless on th S4 board.

Default how many is common in a car that there aren't that many of?

I've posted this before but when I researched this issue there were quite a few to my thinking...it happened to me at 60k and on my '01 it was completely covered as that issue was covered to 80k...my only problem was being without my ar for a week...sweet A4 2.0T quattro to drive so I didn't mind too much (it didn't snow at least but I think you could have had more of this paid for, IMO.
