Default Any good experience with the bra/hood and paint sealant service?

I've heard horror stories about putting a leather bra on the hood ... paint rashes, small stones in between the hood and the bra scratching the paint, discoloration, etc.

Any good experiences out there ?

Aside from putting a clear bra (stongard, etc.) what else is there to protect the hood paint ?

ANy of you have the Audi Paint Sealant Protection ... I didn't know I had it until they mailed me and said I could go to them every six months for the next 3 years to have the paint recoated. Have any of you done this ?????

Thanks

Default Only con is the wax that gets caught along the edge, otherwise awesome...

I'll sell you my hood, because I have been instructed legally to remove my allroad from the road pending outcome of suit against AoA and the danger of our lag issue

Default If you have Clearbra (TM) applied, you shouldn't have any exposed edges...

They'll wrap the material around the edges of the panel, and can cover the whole hood (should you opt to pay for it.) This way you're not left with any visible edges collecting dirt/wax =).

One of the more noticable negatives is a mild "orange peel" ripple visible on the hood only, due to unrolling the material onto a large flat surface. The other is a slight loss of gloss on the clearbra'd panels, as compared to a very well waxed uncovered surface.

Default My past experience with car bras in the past is that they work well..

Bras work well if they are used temporarily, such as on a road trip. They should not be left on all the time, though. But if you're heading up to the mountains they sure help keep the rock chips off the paint.

Default Sand and grit can get under the edges...

this can be "repaired" later on during a touch-up session where remaining air bubbles or other defects are treated...but it is still a hassle. After seeing an S4-guys car, done by Clearbra (Utah), I decided NOT to have it done for the following reasons:
1. Orange-peel effect on hood
2. Relative "dullness" of the treated areas vs. polished paint
3. Imperfection of application around the corners of the hood near the windshield (cut edges exposed...nothing can be done about that)
4. Grit under edges along bumper fender junctions and around wheel wells.
5. $1065 for trading one type of imperfection (rock chips), for another type (orange-peel, dullness, exposed cut edges, and grit)...not worth it, IMO.

If things get bad enough eventually...I'll repaint the hood and front bumper.

Default Here's my solution!
