Anyone know how much that Phatbox costs?

I'm finally ordering my'03 AR in June (tax refunds - WOO HOO!). I'm inclined not to order the 6-disc changer because I want an Alpine navi system instead of the Audi guidance. Will the stock head unit in the AR talk to the Phatbox system THROUGH the Alpine navi system (CD based)? Or should I just get the CD changger w/ Audi guidance system (yuck) and be done with it all?

Are you talking about accessing the CD nav info from the PhatBox? Or are you just asking whether you can hook two systems to the external CD changer interface? The first is impossible and the second I'm not sure about.

Either way, make sure Audi installs the external CD changer harness in your new car. Run, don't walk, to your dealer and ask about this. Audi started deleting the harness from allroads mid-02. Now that they are selling the PhatBox, I would expect them to start installing it again.

The PhatBox fits fine in the internal slot where the CD changer would go. All you have to do is remove the metal cage and cut out a hole in the back so the wiring harness fits. It took about 10 minutes with a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade. Installing it on the compartment door is probably more difficult and now the thing is getting in the way in the trunk, is visible to thieves and you've permanently damaged a visible piece. I'll bet Audi charges some absurd price to replace that compartment door.

If you buy a PhatBox definitely don't follow the AW install instructions.
