Default Anyone run their allroad out of gas yet?

I tested the bottom of my gauge yesterday. It was on "E" and the computer counted down to zero miles of fuel remaining. Then I drove almost 10 more miles before stopping for gas. I topped it off fully and it took 18.4 gallons into the listed 18.5 gallon capacity (includes reserve.)

I am wondering if I really came within .1 gallon of walking or not. Car did not sputter or show any indication of loss of fuel pressure.

Thoughts?

I once put in 18.598 gallons when the car said I could still go 10 more miles.

Do you remember what the computer said and how much fuel it took to fill?

Default The diesel won't let you run out.......

....or at least drive until the fuel supply is completely depleted.

To safeguard that very expensive high pressure diesel injection pump, once the fuel in the tank goes to a predetermined minimal level, the engine management system shuts the engine down, until further fuel is added to the tank.

The pump requires the fuel for internal lubrication hence this inbuilt safeguard.

Have you actually been through a tank of diesel yet?

I put in 67 litres (17.6USGAL)last night with 10 miles on the clock, was cutting it a little fine coasting down the motorway to the ASDA supermarket. All in a vain effort to save 2.5p/litre.

Anyway, what is this predetermined limit you talk about, it must be very low. If it does exist I won't cut it so fine next time.
