AR Seat Problems - Back Pain
I've had my AR 2.5 TDi for almost 3 years and found it to be one of the most comfortable cars I've owned. However, over the past couple of months, I've experienced lower back problems which necessitated several visits to the chiropractor. This has been getting progressively worse.
Through a process of elimination, I have identifed the problem as the AR drivers seat. If I don't drive the car for a few days I'm fine, once I drive it again, I have problems.
It's fully electric and has lumbar. I've adjusted it into several positions to no avail. There is also a noticable difference in seat firmness between the passenger and drivers seats.
My only conclusion is that the base of the seat has sagged causing poor posture. I can't get near the underside of the seat due to a cover and the motors to see the condition of the springs.
Has anyone had similar problems? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know but....I find the standard Allroad seats to be marginal at best...
I find the seats in our 2000 A4 to be much better. The side supports are great (and these are the stock 1.8T leatherette NON-sport seats.)
Of course, the sport seats in my BMW 540i 6-speed are absolutely amazing.
Seats were also great in my Volkswagen Corrado Vr6 and Rabbit GTI (Mk1 Golf GTI for the Europeans) I was very disappointed with the stock Allroad seats on my drive from San Francisco to Seattle.

Be sure to eliminate this known cause discovered in 2003

Go to an Automotive upholstery shop...
Ask them to re cushion the seat.
Foam wears out over use and compresses a lot.
I'm seeing and feeling a big difference in my driver's seat as well after 85000 miles.

On my old A6, I talked to an upholstery shop about swapping seat bases...
from right to left after 75,000 miles. The seat base cushioning started to sag a bit with age. They were willing to take both seats apart, swap the guts and reinstall for $150. This is the same shop that does all the work for the local Audi dealers. In the end, i just lived with it until trading for my allroad.
