Default Back from PCA Club Race. Allroad gets attention; and runoff with AMG ....

Drove east for a Porsche Club race weekend in West Virginia. In a paddock full of Porsches, it was amazing the number of comments and questions I got about my allroad. Must have had a half dozen questions about the wheels alone. And questions about the exhaust too.

Might have helped that I was parked in the paddock next to my sister's E55 AMG as well as the 3 Porsches she and her husband race- vintage 356 speedster, 993 Cup Car, IROC 911. Wish I had taken my PCA race license and log book with me... could have co-driven the Cup or IROC in the 90 minute enduro. Bummer.

Great race weekend- lots of competition, only one car rolled up into a ball. My sister won her sprint race class with the Speedster, and got corner worker's choice award! (I taught her everything whe knows!!!!) Brother-in-law and co-driver finished 2nd in their enduro class in Cup Car; were leading at 70 minutes but spun. Sister and co-driver finished 2nd in their enduro class in the IROC in spite of having to rebuild the gearbox the night before.

On the way home from the track, had an impromptu drag race with my sister in her E55 AMG- the last year of the old body style. The grunt of the big V8 almost got me off the line, but her traction control intervened and quattro traction won out.... until about 30mph. Then it was all taillights. But at 80, she still only had me by a couple of car lengths. Not bad for a station wagon.

Gawd, I want to get back on the track in a 911 again. Audis are fun, but nothing like a nice 911 properly set up.

Default Well, the AMG is a few pounds lighter than the ar..so no real comparison,

did you ever take the ar on the track? Even for such a long wheel base car it is still a fun ride, specially with the Air Ride Suspension.

Nice write up, Thanks for sharing, and Yes, nothing beats a Porsche with a nice setup flying around the track...I totally agree :-)

Default How true it is. Driving a

911 on track is the most fun you can have with your helmet on.

Default Your signature photo is deja vu.....

Had a black on black 84 Targa, then 86 coupe which became a track car.
Agree about the 911. Tough to drive correctly, but sooooo rewarding when you get it right. And they still make the best sounds- exhaust, intake, chains etc. 7400 rpm through a nice exhaust is music. I'm going through withdrawal.

Default Didn't expect it to be a comparison, just surprised how close it was.

Haven't had the allroad on the track.... OK took a few hot laps this weekend but that's it. With 18" and H-Sports, does pretty nicely.

Default I'm with you on the Porsche's...

Dad is a 356 guy (6 at last count) 3 are pure race cars (well as pure as a 40+ year old car can be) and I run an early 911s.

Default Me too

Sold a Porsche to get the AR. Ok, it didn't quite work out that way, but I wasn't driving the 930 much and the CO roads were rougher than expected...I didn't want to beat it to a pulp.

Left over is my '72 track car. Way more fun than the 930 if you're not into 100+ mph speeds.
