Default Bad MPG. Really Bad...

I LOVE my allroad but I'm getting a bit concerned about my gas mileage. In a previous thread I stated that my mileage was only about 17 mpg with over 1000 miles total on the car. Others on this board have reported 25 mpg. I want to know why. I don't lead foot my allroad. Usually the RPM's never get above 3K and I rarely drive with the windows down. I do drive with the A/C on practically all of the time but I just can't believe that this would cause an 8 mpg difference.

I also stated that my RPM's are about 3K at 70 mph which I find sorta high. What are ya'll running RPM-wise at 70 mph?

I would appreciate anyone's feedback especially if you live in TX.

Curtis

Default Where are you located?

What type of gas do you use? What brand?

Default I think there is some overstatement of MPG...

I think some may post their "best" mpgs or what the trip computer overstates. The two people I know with allroads average from 15-16 mpg around town up to the low 20s on the highway, both drive similarly, no grandmas, but not racers either. Overall, they get 17-18, one has ~5k, the other ~8k.
Lots of S4 drivers say they get in the mid to upper teens also.
Also some report improving mileage over time, but given its EPA rating, I think 17 is pretty good, but on the highway at 70-75mph you should probably be exceeding 20, especially near sea level in Texas.

Default I probably get 17-18 MPG around town but get 24+ on true consistent hwy driving...

This is 70 MPH steady state with no lights and minimal traffic. If you are driving 50% or more in town you are probably getting pretty average mileage.

Default Just outside NYC

No driving in NYC yet, but surrounding area

I use 93 octane - Gulf

Driving so far has been 75% hway at 80 mph and 25% around town stop and go ...

Think it will get better when we get used to driving the TIP ( our other cars are manual tran)

I'm also getting ~17mpg and I find RPM's at ~3K at 70-75 mph (with TIP). Got 18.5 mpg on one fill up but I round off to do the math so that could explain some variability. The trip computer, I don't believe, is very accurrate. After a full tank it shows the range to be 340 to 380 miles, but I recently took it down to the point when a range of 5 miles was showing and I had only 312 miles on the trip odometer. I'm basically at sea level in the Boston area. The gas mileage is the only negative w/re to this car that I have found.

I wonder whether "25" is coming from the dashboard display, or actually calculated via miles driven and gas purchased. I've tracked mine with gas receipts and am getting between 16.5 and 17.5. It's a mix of driving... city, highway, stop&go commute, and downright dangerous (I've seen an impressive range of the speedo so far). Summary: I think your car agrees with anybody else who has used these methods, and also the posted mpg. I think it's "typical" instead of "bad" if compared to other allroads. Just my $.02

Default I get worse mileage

Don't feel too bad... I've been getting 14-15 MPG lately. I'm sure it's a combination of Seattle traffic (city and highway bumper-to-bumper) and aggressive driving. Filled up at half-tank recently and it averaged to 13mpg! (9.5 gallons and 125 miles on trip computer)
