My '02 OEM battery is finally dieing, @ 5 years 11 months, 170K miles, I have no complain about that. I shopped around a bit and decided to go with a one from NAPA for set of reasons. Now the rub, got the battery home last night, had it on the floor in front of the car, took one look at the one in the car verses the one on the floor and said out-loud, "that ain't right".
The OEM battery is about 12" long, the one they sold me is about 10" long (width, polarity and connectors are correct). Since the battery is held down by a bolted Z clamp on the bottom of the battery, I stopped at that point and decided to return it today. I did note that there was a second threaded hole at about 14" for a wider battery. This morning I was thinking about and wondered if there was a 3rd threaded hole underneath the original battery for a shorter battery. I did not remove the original battery as I didn't think of this possibility when I had the time/tools to do so.
Anyone know if there is a third mount point under the OEM battery so that a shorter cased battery could be installed with the factory hold down?
thanks,
fj..

currently I have a S4 battery installed which is shorter than the OEM allroad battery - fits right in.

While I appreciate where you are coming from, the odds of me owning this car for another 6 years is zero. My youngest child goes off to college next fall so my need for a backseat leaves with him (not that he's used it for a couple years except on rare occasion). Plus, the local dealer didn't even have one. It was getting to the point that if it wasn't driven in 24 hours it wouldn't start in the morning. so I had to have something to replace it *now*.
There is probably a TT or TT-R in my future. That and a truck for towing which the allroad did for me. It's been the perfect car for this period of my life and I will be sad to see it go in a lot of ways.
