Default Bike racks. Recommendations?

Last week I bought a Thule 598 Criterium bike rack at REI to mount on my Thule aerobars. Unbeknownst to the saleperson, this combo does not work. A call to Thule revealed that only the 599 XTR bike racks attach to the aerobars, using T-bolts in the same manner as with my 724 ski racks . But now I'm having second thoughts about roof racks cuz I'm fully capable of driving into my garage and crushing my bike.

I'd be interested to learn what bike racks, roof or rear-mounted, others have found that work well.

TIA,

Spyder

Default Personally, whenever I pull out and put the bike on the rack, I then go into the garage and

put my garbage can in my parking space, as a reminder. This is my routine. Others have posted many different ways of reminding themselves.

with a message - "bike on roof" - I liked that idea.

Lucky for me this house I am in doesn't have power garage door openers so I would really have to be a moron to drive into the garage with the bike on the roof (could happen though).

Default BTW - I use the Thule Velo Vise rack - I like it - should fit the aero bars.

Wouldn't necessarily work for me, as I don't need to use my rearview to get in the garage.

Default search bike rack

I am tryin to figure out what racks to put on my AR as well, Audi, Thule, Yakima. If you search the allroad forum you'll get a ton of differing opinions of rack vs hitch mount with pictures I spent at least an hour reading all the threads....I think the 599 is the lowest profile clamp (?)

Default Yakima vipers here.

Put your garage door opener somewhere other than it's normal place (like in the trunk) when you have the bikes on top. Keeps you from opening the garage by habit.
